There's a trivia question and Shocker history This week's trivia question who holds the Wichita State record for most points scored against Tulsa in a men's basketball game? Your choices are A Al Tate, B Aubrey Sherrod or C Ron Baker. As always, stick around to the end for the answer. Wichita State plays at Tulsa 6pm Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the NIT. That game is on ESPN2 and can be heard on keyn 103.7 FM. The winner advances to the NIT semifinals in Indianapolis on April 2nd. The Shockers advanced on Sunday with a 9670 win at Oklahoma State. They will play Tulsa for the fourth time this season.
[00:01:06] WSU softball has won seven of eight games after taking two of three from FAU last weekend at Wilkins Stadium. Shockers are on the road. They travel to USF for a series that starts on Friday. It's a big weekend for the Shockers. They moved up to number 62 in the NCAA's RPI. USF is the top American Conference team in the RPI. Number 39. Wichita State's next home series starts April 2 versus Tulsa.
[00:01:33] Shocker Baseball opened American Conference play by taking two of three from Charlotte. WSU plays at Memphis this weekend in a series starting Friday. Its next home game is March 31 versus Washburn. It's an 11:05am first pitch for kids Day. Tulane visits X Stadium for a series that begins Thursday, April 2nd.
[00:01:55] Shocker women's tennis have won 12 straight matches. They have climbed to number 27 nationally. They meet South Florida at 5pm Friday. Coleman tennis Complex. Shocker men are also playing well. They have won eight straight matches heading into this week. They are ranked number 64.
[00:02:11] They play twice at home noon Wednesday versus number 74 Tulsa and 2pm Friday versus VCU, both of those at the Coleman Tennis Complex.
[00:02:21] Your trivia answer is a Al Tate Tate, from Coffeyville, scored a then school record 40 points in a 9073 win over Tulsa at Levitt arena on March 5, 1960, his last game in college. His total topped Cleo Littleton's mark of 38 points set in 1955. Tate, a 6 foot 4 guard, averaged 14.6 points in his career. If you're thinking Aubrey Sherrod and Ron Baker had some big scoring games against Tulsa, you are correct. Sherrod especially played well against the the Golden Hurricane. He had games of 27, 27, 28 and 32 points. Ron Baker had games of 21 and 23 in his career against Tulsa.
[00:03:04] This week in Shocker history will stick with the NIT theme. March 24, 2019 Wichita State holds Clemson to 15 baskets in a 63:55 win in the second round of the NIT at Little John Coliseum.
