Get set for the week with the Roundhouse Rundown podcast, the fastest five minutes in collegiate promotions. Basketball season is upon us, with the Shocker women celebrating Halloween with Wednesday’s exhibition vs. Newman. Their opener is Nov. 3 vs. Lincoln University. The WSU men open the season vs. UNC Asheville on Nov. 4. Shocker cross country heads to the American Championship this week in North Carolina. Volleyball travels to Florida. Closer to home, catch WSU softball and baseball in scrimmages. All that, plus promotions, ticket specials, Shocker trivia and Shocker history.

[00:00:14] Hello, welcome to the Roundhouse Rundown Weekly glance at Shocker Athletics. Each week we give you a rapid fire listing on events, promotions, ticket deals. There's a trivia question and we wrap it up with Shocker History. [00:00:26] This week's Trivia question Wichita State joined the American Conference in 2017. [00:00:31] Who did the Shockers defeat for their first American men's basketball win? A Tulsa B Connecticut C. Houston Stick around to the end for the answer. The Shocker cross country teams compete in the American Conference Championships on Saturday in Concord, North Carolina. The WSU men are coming off a really strong effort in the pre Nationals meet. They are number eight in the Midwest region rankings. Tulane is number 18 nationally and number one in the South Central region. Tulsa is number six in the Midwest region. So that's a very good battle at the top of the American Conference with some strong teams. On the women's side. Tulane is number 29 nationally and number one in the South Central Region. Wichita State's women are ranked number 15 in the Midwest. The Shocker women's basketball team plays Newman University in an exhibition game at 6pm Wednesday. [00:01:24] Their season opener is at 6pm on Nov. 3 versus Lincoln University. [00:01:30] The men's team opens the season versus North Carolina Asheville at 6:30pm on Nov. 4. [00:01:37] It is big night for the students. The first 500 students will get the official student section T shirt. Wichita State also has promotions for the two women's games this week. For Newman, it's spooky season. The first 150 kids receive a trick or treat bag with Fear the Wheat branding for the home opener on November 3rd versus Lincoln. Take home a schedule poster Shocker softball They have two scrimmages this week. 6pm Thursday vs. Butler Community College 5pm Sunday vs. Hutchinson Community College. Both of those at Wilkins Stadium. Shocker Baseball they kick off their fall series. That's Today, Tuesday at 4pm Series continues Wednesday at 4pm Thursday at 3pm and then it wraps up on Saturday 2pm and Sunday Wednesday 1pm as always, check social media in case of weather delays or disruptions. Shocker volleyball is on the road. They are at Florida Atlantic 5pm Friday and at USF at noon on Sunday. Both of those matches are on espn. [00:02:39] FAU is one game ahead of the Shockers in the American standings. USF is tied for first with rice. [00:02:47] Your trivia answer is B UConn. The 8th ranked shockers open play in their new conference home with a 7262 win in Hartford on CBS. That's on December 30, 2017. Landry Shamut made 5 of 6 three pointers and scored 16 points. Richard Kelly added 11 points and 12 rebounds in kind of a quintessential Richard Kelly game this week in shocker history. October 29, 2010 Wichita State defeats Missouri State 3 to 2 in front of 4,206 fans at Koch Arena. Camry Zwissler leads the Shockers with 17 kills. Emily Adney adds 16. [00:03:28] Those 2010 Shockers would finish the season 21, 8144 and in second place in the Missouri Valley Conference before a first round exit in the NCAA Tournament.
