[00:00:00] Foreign hello, welcome to the Roundhouse Rundown, your weekly glance at Shocker athletics. Each week we give you a quick listen on events, promotions and ticket deals. There's a trivia question and there's a little bit of Shocker history. [00:00:26] This week's Trivia question Ralph Miller started coaching shocker basketball in 1951-52. [00:00:33] That team scored 93 points in his second game and then scored 100 in his third, which was quite remarkable for the time his team scored 100 or more points nine times in his 13 seasons as coach. How many times had the Shockers passed the century mark before 1951? Is it a 0, b 6 times or c 3 times? Stick around to the end and we will give you the answer to that Shocker basketball trivia question. [00:01:00] Shocker Volleyball they play Memphis at 7pm Friday at Koch Arena. It is their annual Dig Pink game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness and raise money for the Side Out Foundation. On Sunday, the Shockers are back home at Koch Arena. They face UAB at noon. That's the annual Powerful Minds match highlighting mental health. Fans are invited on the court for Post Match Serves. [00:01:25] Men's basketball plays a charity scrimmage versus Drake at 1pm on Saturday. [00:01:31] Tickets are $20. You can listen to that on keyn 103.7 FM as Mike Kennedy gets started on the basketball season. Proceeds benefit the Wichita Children's home and U Jump, the junior mentoring program with former Shocker star Cheese Johnson. Shocker Softball continues their fall schedule October 16th. That's a Thursday evening Oklahoma State visits for a 6pm scrimmage. [00:01:58] Your trivia answer is a zero. When the university of Wichita hired Ralph Miller from East high school in 1951, the university was ready to make a splash in the Missouri Valley Conference and play a more exciting winning basketball. Miller did just that right away with a pressing, fast paced style and having freshman star Cleo Littleton, who followed Miller from East High, also helped. The Shockers defeated Baylor 9359 in the second game of that season. They defeated Creighton 163 in the second, both of them setting the school scoring records. In the seventh season before Miller's arrival, the Shockers passed 80 points twice this week in Shocker history. There are a lot of good Shocker baseball memories from October in the major leagues. On October 10, 2006, Detroit pitcher Nate Roberson throws five scoreless innings, striking out four and walking three to earn the win in a 51 win in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series at Oakland. [00:02:57] As always, thank you for listening. You can find more information on schedules, tickets, [email protected] you can also find podcasts and [email protected] as part of the Roundhouse's coverage of the Shockers.
