Hello, welcome to the Roundhouse Podcast, your weekly glance at all things Shocker athletics. Each week we give you a rapid fire listen on events, promotions, ticket deals. It's a trivia question and a bit of Shocker history.
This week's trivia question who is the most recent Shocker men's basketball player to earn Most Outstanding Player honors at a conference tournament? A. Wichita State is 21:10 and earned the second seed in the American Conference Championship for men's basketball. The tournament begins Wednesday in Birmingham, Alabama. The Shockers, courtesy of that buy, into the semifinals, play at 4pm Saturday on ESPN2. Possible opponents Tulsa, North Texas, FAU or Temple. Sunday's championship game is at 2:15pm On ESPN.
Shocker baseball plays another four game home series this weekend. It starts Thursday versus Butler at 6:05pm Friday. We have a 3:05pm first pitch and there's a Saturday doubleheader that starts at 1:05pm the double header is Hometown Heroes Day. Military, fire, police, EMS and healthcare workers receive free admission with an employee ID at the ticket office.
Next week, Shocker Baseball plays Nebraska 6pm on March 17 2pm March 18. The first 300 fans on March 17 get a St. Patrick's Day silicone cup courtesy of AR Roofing Shocker Softball is at Wilkins Stadium to play UAB this weekend. Game times are 6pm Friday, 4pm Saturday and noon Sunday.
First 300 fans receive a Coke Women in Sports shirt on Saturday and there are autographs available after the game Sunday. You can run the bases post game. Also coming up For Shocker softball March 17 for South Dakota State at 2pm Shocker women's bowling competes in the ISC Sectional qualifying on Friday. The Conference USA championship starts Wednesday in Harahan, Louisiana. Your trivia answer is a Connor Francamp. Connor earned Most Outstanding Player honors in the 2017 MVC tournament. He scored 19 points in a 71:51 win over Illinois State in the championship game, WSU's final game as an MVC member. Takel Cotton was named MOP of the 2014 NBC tournament this week in Shocker History. March 12, 1965 Wichita State's Kelly Peet scores 31 points in an 8681 win over SMU in Manhattan in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Peet makes 12 of 16 shots, grabs 12 rebounds for WSU in front of 10,500 fans at Ahearn Field House.
